The significance of the kidney in diabetes Ferrannini, Fioretto, Groop, Hach, Nauck, Thomas

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a dysfunction in the metabolism of glucose, is a burgeoning public health problem, the growth of which shows no signs of abating. This book begins with a short introduction to the disease, which sets the scene for a more detailed consideration of some pressing issues; notably the importance of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in people with T2DM and the implications this co-morbidity has for the medicinal management of T2DM. Intensive research efforts are providing clinicians with a growing number of medicinal options for the management of T2DM. This book reviews some of these new and emerging therapies and what they mean for the management of T2DM in people who also have CKD.
